Mariners Win 10th Straight, Send Nationals Packing

Jesse Winker’s second solo homer of the day gave the Seattle Mariners a 2-1 win against the Washington Nationals in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday night.

For the first time since April 8-17, 2002, the Mariners have won 10 straight games. The only time they went on a longer winning streak was in 2001, when they went 15 games without losing between May 23 and June 8 of that year. In the AL West, Seattle is the runner-up behind Houston, but the Mariners remain in the hunt for a wild-card spot.

“Winning 10 games in a row is difficult. Scott Servais, the company’s manager, agreed. “I’d want to pay a lot of credit to our team. Right now, they’re focused on a single objective. Every day, put your best foot forward and give it your all. A lot of great people are in that room, and things are coming together.”

Eugenio Suárez’s three-run homer and six strong innings from Chris Flexen helped the Mariners to a 6-4 win in the opener.
