Liverpool midfielder Elliott has surgery on broken ankle

Harvey Elliott, a Liverpool midfielder, had surgery on his broken left ankle on Tuesday.

Elliott, who was injured after a challenge by Leeds defender Pascal Struijk, was carried off on a stretcher during the 3-0 Premier League victory on Sunday.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said, “I spoke to him the night after the game, and he was in the best possible place at that moment.”

Soon after the incident, Elliott, who was given oxygen as he was brought off the field at Elland Road, shared a photo of himself on Instagram with thumbs up and wrote: “Thank you for the messages folks! “Recovery path.”

For the challenge, Struijk received a red card. Leeds announced on Tuesday that it has filed an appeal against the ruling.
