25-year-old French winger Kingsley Coman has had to have minor surgery to correct a heart issue that he had. Coman, who has been at the club since 2015, was last featured for the German last week when his side faced Barcelona in the Champions League.
Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann explained the reason for Coman’s absence ahead of Bayern’s game with Bochum over the weekend. The 34-year-old said Coman was suffering a minor heart rhythm disturbance that needed minor surgery.
“King’ had an operation yesterday. He had a minor heart rhythm disturbance. I’ll explain that with my little medical expertise. There are two strands that activate the sinus node. One of them was cut off so that there would be no additional blow. Sometimes he had less air for a short time and was less productive.
“That’s why we did a long-term ECG (electrocardiogram) and found something that could be fixed quickly. He’ll start cardio on Tuesday. It won’t take much longer than a week and a half or two before he’s back in team training,” said Nagelsmann.
Nagelsmann stated that the surgery sounds more dramatic than it actually is and that the Frenchman has a little pain in the surgery wound. The Bayern coach believes that the French winger will be able to train after the wound heals. Coman is expected to miss a few games for the German side but should be available for selection sometime next month.
Bayern Munich faces bottom-placed Greuther Fuerth next in the league, followed by a Champions League tie against Dynamo Kyiv, and then Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen in the league, in their next four games.
Coman has featured just four times for Bayern this season, making just one start. The Frenchman has tough competition this season, with the likes of Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, and youngster Jamal Musiala competing with him for the wide roles.
The 25-year-old has been very successful in his stint with Bayern Munich, winning six Bundesliga titles, a Champions League title – where he scored the winning goal against former club Paris Saint-Germain, and three German Cups.
Coman has been a part of the Bayern Munich squad since 2015, joining the club on loan from Juventus and then permanently joining them in 2017. Since making his professional debut in football with PSG as a 16-year-old in 2013, Coman has won 10 league titles in total – two with PSG, two with Juventus, and six with Bayern.
