Tom Brady tosses 2 TDs, Buccaneers beat Giants 30-10

Published on

Tom Brady took a step forward in the pocket to scramble, high-stepped a tackler, slid hard for a first down, and then sprang up screaming and pumping his arm.

That’s one method to get rid of the bitterness of defeat.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New York Giants 30-10 on Monday night, with Brady throwing for 307 yards and two touchdowns.

The Buccaneers (7-3) ended a two-game losing streak, and Brady avoided losing three straight games for the first time since 2002.

“We’re at a decent stage,” Brady said, “but we can play a lot better than we have.” “I’m hoping our greatest football is yet to come.”

Brady went 10 for 10 in the first quarter before throwing an interception to Mike Evans on a deep shot. On third-and-4, the 44-year-old rushed 10 yards to extend Tampa’s drive, which ended with Ryan Succop hitting a 25-yard range goal to make the score 10-3.

“It’s an eleven-yard dash. “I remember how far they went because it doesn’t happen very often,” Brady added, unaware that it was officially declared 10 yards.

On the play, Rob Gronkowski joked that he was going to open up the seam for a touchdown.

“He could’ve just thrown it up,” Gronkowski said, “but I saw him running and that was pretty sweet.” “Wow, that was impressive.”

The Giants (3-7) hung close for one half before unraveling when Daniel Jones fired a touchdown pass to left tackle Andrew Thomas.

Giants coach Joe Judge said, “We have to do a better job of putting our players in position to make plays.” “We need to sit down as a coaching staff (on Tuesday) and figure out how we’re going to play this game and give our players a chance to make plays.”

On the opening drive of the third quarter, the Giants marched to the Buccaneers’ 25-yard line before Jones, under pressure from Devin White, fired an incomplete pass on fourth-and-1 after rushing to the line to beat the play clock.

Brady subsequently connected with Evans for a 5-yard touchdown throw to make the score 24-10. Evans passed Mike Alstott for the franchise record with his 72nd touchdown. After giving away Brady’s 600th touchdown throw to a fan earlier in the season, he made sure to keep the ball.

“I’m quite proud of that achievement. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to take it a long way,” Evans added. “I’m ecstatic. A-Train was a fantastic player. I’m ecstatic just to be mentioned in the same breath as him, let alone breaking his record. It’s a good thing.”

On New York’s second play, Jones threw an interception to 310-pound nose tackle Steve McLendon, but Tampa Bay settled for Succop’s 40-yard field goal despite starting at the Giants’ 37-yard line. It was McLendon’s first draft pick in almost a decade.

Mike Edwards picked Jones in the fourth quarter, and Succop capped the scoring with a 30-yard field goal.

Brady completed 30 of 46 passes for 46 yards and one interception. In the regular season, he went 6-1 versus the Giants, but he’s lost two Super Bowls against them, including one that kept New England from going undefeated.

With 29 touchdown passes and 3,172 yards passing, the seven-time Super Bowl champion leads the NFL.

After missing five of Tampa’s previous six games, Gronkowski was back in the lineup. Brady targeted his pal eight times, completing six passes for 71 yards to the four-time All-Pro tight end.

Saquon Barkley, the Giants’ star running back, returned after missing four games due to a sprained ankle, but only managed 25 yards on six rushes.

A tough defense that was without defensive lineman Vita Vea due to a knee injury sacked Jones twice.

Brady started off strong, completing five of his first six throws, including a 13-yard touchdown connection to Chris Godwin.

After Evans had a pass bounce off his hands and directly to Adoree Jackson, who returned the pick 5 yards to the Buccaneers 10, the Giants knotted the game at 10-10.

Jones lofted a 2-yard touchdown ball to Thomas, who had to leap to get it as he was backing up. After missing four games, the 6-foot-6, 315-pound Thomas returned, sporting a brace on his right arm. He was surrounded by the rest of the offensive line as he celebrated his first career reception.

TURN THE LIGHTS OFF

The Giants have dropped ten consecutive prime-time games, including games against Washington and Kansas City this season.

RAZZLE-DAZZLE

The Giants had rookie receiver Kardarius Toney try a deep pass to Darius Slayton that fell incomplete after employing an offensive lineman as a receiver. On the play, cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting was first called for pass interference, but the call was overturned.

INJURIES

Toney received a quad bruise in the fourth quarter for the Giants. FS Logan Ryan was unable to play due to COVID-19 guidelines. TE Kyle Rudolph left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury.
