Reich out, Saturday in as Colts try to fix stagnant offense

After failing to turn around the floundering Indianapolis Colts offense under Frank Reich, team owner Jim Irsay is now turning to another well-known figure: former All-Pro center Jeff Saturday.

On Monday, the Colts made both of their announcements around an hour apart.

They follow one of the worst offensive displays in team history by less than a day.

Officials from the Colts have set a news conference for later in the day to discuss the choice.

The only high school in Georgia where Saturday has ever coached, and most recently worked as an ESPN analyst and team adviser. He has been a staple in the Indy community since his rookie season in 1999, is a member of the Indy Ring of Honor, and was instrumental in bringing an end to the 2011 NFL lockout.

The past few weeks have been a blur for the Colts (3-5-1).

Matt Ryan, a seasoned veteran and the league MVP in 2016, was benched two weeks ago in favor of second-year quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

Despite calling the plays, Reich fired offensive coordinator Marcus Brady last Tuesday. Just before last week’s trade deadline, general manager Chris Ballard also sent running back Nyheim Hines to Buffalo.

As the only midseason coaching change Irsay has made since becoming owner 25 years ago, Reich is now fired.
