Pistorius up for parole, but he must meet victim’s parents

Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius is up for parole eight years after killing his fiancée, but he must first meet with her parents.

Pistorius, a world-famous double-amputee athlete who competed in the 2012 Olympics, has been eligible for parole since July, after being found guilty of murdering model Reva Steenkamp through a toilet door in his house on Valentine’s Day 2013.

In 2015, Pistorius was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 13 years and five months in jail. After serving half of his sentence, he was eligible for parole under South African law.

A parole hearing for Pistorius was set to take place last month but was postponed, in part because a meeting between Pistorius and Steenkamp’s parents, Barry and June, had not been organized, according to counsel for both parties.
