Patrick Mahomes wins 2nd MVP award ahead of Super Bowl
As expected, Patrick Mahomes won the AP NFL MVP award with a landslide of votes. He’s going to try to erase the MVP curse now.
With 48 out of 50 first-place votes from a nationwide group of media members who regularly cover the league, Mahomes handily defeated Jalen Hurts and repeated as champion. He received 490 points, while Hurts received 193. Hurts received 1 first-place vote, 26 second-place votes, 11 third-place votes, and 10 fourth-place votes, for a total of 193.
On Sunday, Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (16-3) will face off against Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles (16-3) in the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs management and Mahomes’ teammates were recognized in a video that Mahomes presented during NFL Honors on Thursday night.
Mahomes remarked, “I would never be standing here without y’all.” As a team, we’ve put in countless hours and sacrificed everything for the chance to play in the Super Bowl. This weekend, let’s keep working toward that goal.
There hasn’t been a winner among the previous nine MVPs who have been in the Super Bowl that season. After the 1999 season, Kurt Warner was the last player to win both the MVP award and Super Bowl.
