No decision in Watson discipline case this week

Following allegations of sexual misbehavior, the Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will have to sit out another week as the team decides whether or not to sanction him.

The AP has learned from two individuals with direct knowledge of the case that retired judge Sue L. Robinson would not rule on Watson’s disciplinary hearing, which was completed over a month ago. Anonymity was requested since talks are confidential.

24 massage therapists in Texas accused Watson of sexual harassment and assault, and he has already resolved 20 of those legal complaints. Four claims are still ongoing, and the lawyer for the ladies has stated that he intends to go to trial in the spring of next year.

In the wake of the accusations, two Texas grand juries declined to prosecute Watson.

After four seasons in Houston, Watson was moved to the Cleveland Browns in March and has been practicing with the team ever since. Robinson has spent weeks attempting to ascertain if Watson violated the NFL’s personal conduct rules and if he should be disciplined.

During a three-day hearing in Delaware last month, the league asked for an indefinite ban of at least one year. There was a push from the NFL Players’ Association for no penalty, but a source familiar with Watson’s case told the AP in June that a suspension is likely and the aim is to have Watson play this season.
