Muffed punt, Robinson TD lift Commanders over Bears 12-7

Brian Robinson had a fantastic career at Alabama, where he racked up a number of touchdowns. The first major moment in the rookie’s professional career was a huge one.

The Washington Commanders snapped a four-game losing slide on Thursday night, beating the Chicago Bears 12-7 thanks to a 1-yard touchdown run by Robinson in the middle of the fourth quarter after Christian Holmes recovered a muffed punt by Velus Jones deep in Chicago territory.

Carson Wentz, the team’s quarterback, described the play as “massive.” We’ve been losing games and having rough stretches of play as of late. It was a large one, this one.

Perhaps it wasn’t quite as ugly as the Colts-Broncos bore the week before, which led to zingers from legendary play-by-play announcer Al Michaels and a social media frenzy. Misreads, tipped balls, overthrown passes, and poor play were commonplace. However, there was also plenty of tension in the last minutes.

The Commanders (4-3) upset Jacksonville for the first time since the season opening thanks to two turnovers after forcing just one in the previous five games. While still in the first half, Washington’s Jonathan Allen picked off a pass intended for Justin Fields deep in Redskins territory.
