Mets acting GM Zack Scott arrested on DUI charge
Zack Scott, the acting general manager of the New York Mets, was detained on suspicion of driving while intoxicated hours after attending a fundraiser at the home of team owner Steve Cohen.
Scott was detained in suburban White Plains, New York, around 4:15 a.m. on a DUI allegation. White Plains police Capt. James Spencer said officers discovered him asleep at the wheel of his SUV at a traffic light and confirmed he was inebriated. Scott, he claimed, declined to take a breathalyzer test.
Scott, 44, was arrested and released, with a court date set for Thursday morning.
The New York Post was the first to report on the arrest.
The Mets acknowledged on Wednesday that Scott was at Cohen’s house in Connecticut on Monday night for a fundraiser for the team’s Amazin’ Mets Foundation, which was also attended by players, according to an ESPN story. Scott left at 8:30 or 9:00 p.m., according to the team.
The Mets released a statement saying, “We were astonished and profoundly unhappy to learn this morning about an alleged DUI involving Zack Scott.” “This is a big concern for us. While we learn more and evaluate next actions, Zack will not be traveling with the team on our upcoming road trip.”
Last winter, Scott was recruited as the Mets’ associate general manager, reporting to close friend and former colleague Jared Porter. Porter was fired in January after it was revealed he sent sexually explicit text messages and photographs to a female reporter while working for the Chicago Cubs in 2016. Scott was promoted to interim GM in January.
Scott had previously spent 17 years with the Boston Red Sox, where he worked alongside Porter under former Red Sox and Chicago Cubs general manager Theo Epstein.
