Hurts refuses day off after NFC East champ Eagles clinch bye

Given that the Eagles have already secured their division and will have a bye week next week, head coach Nick Sirianni has practically declared a snow day for Monday. Get some sleep, coaches and players. An extended postseason slog may lie ahead.

Jalen Hurts politely declined.

After the Eagles finished their 14-2 season, the Pro Bowl quarterback immediately asked Sirianni if they could get back to work.

According to Sirianni, Hurts told him, “Let’s go watch some tape.”

Sirianni mentioned his trip to the team’s facilities for some video work with Hurts and a few of helpers on his Monday morning radio stint on WIP-FM. Having missed the previous two games with an injured right shoulder, Hurts cannot afford to let this one slip away.

Hurts’s postgame jubilation at the Eagles’ victory was short-lived.

I won’t be able to crack a smile till this is all done,” he said.

The Eagles won’t know their opponent or game day until the next weekend. One thing, though, is without dispute: the Eagles have won the NFC East, secured the top seed in the conference, and locked up the right to play their playoff games at Lincoln Financial Field.

Oh, and their Hurts should be in much better shape.

Sirianni remarked on WIP, “There’s no doubt in my opinion that he should be the MVP of this league.”
