House committee accepts Snyder’s offer to testify virtually

It has been agreed that Dan Snyder, owner of the Washington Commanders, would appear electronically on July 28 before the House Oversight Committee.

In a letter to attorney Karen Patton Seymour on Tuesday, chair Carolyn B. Maloney said the committee’s original subpoena “to assure that Mr. Snyder’s testimony will be full and thorough and would not be constrained in the manner it would be if the deposition were done voluntarily,” Maloney wrote.

Prior deposition and interview transcripts and descriptions of censored information sought by Snyder’s counsel in a previous letter will be made available to the committee. After rejecting numerous other invites, July 28 was one of their top choices.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who appeared electronically on June 22, cited previous responsibilities and overseas travel as among the reasons why he and Snyder did not come when requested to speak.

After the league was fined $10 million last year for failing to share the results of its own investigation into the organization, a committee was formed to look into the team’s workplace culture. Snyder’s camp has until Wednesday at noon EDT to affirm that Snyder would testify before the committee.
