Bills CB Dane Jackson avoids major injury, out of hospital

Dane Jackson of the Buffalo Bills, a cornerback who was hit by a teammate during a 41-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans the previous night, was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday after examinations confirmed he had not suffered a serious lesion to his neck or spinal cord.

The Bills said only that Jackson was receiving additional evaluations and offered no other information about the severity of his injuries.

After a 12-yard catch, Jackson tackled Titans receiver Treylon Burks from behind late in the second quarter, injuring him. Tremaine Edmunds, a linebacker, dove in late and smacked Jackson in the head while he was lying on Burks’ back. The impact caused Jackson’s neck to jerk back.

Before being carried into an ambulance, medical personnel assessed Jackson on the field while he still had full range of motion in his limbs.

“You go from being a coach to just being a human when I’m out there watching him getting loaded into the ambulance. That’s a real moment,” coach Sean McDermott said following the game. “Just praying for him. It’s an unfortunate situation but we’re praying for him.”
