Commanders owner Dan Snyder testifies before House committee

An investigation into allegations of workplace misconduct against the Washington Commanders’ owner, Dan Snyder, was launched by a congressional committee on Thursday. Snyder spoke for more than 10 hours in a deposition done digitally and in secret.

Snyder’s testimony ended about 6:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, according to both a committee spokeswoman and a committee spokesperson for the U.S. House Committee on Oversight. A live stream of Snyder’s appearance from Israel was set at 8 a.m.

According to a statement released by a spokeswoman for Washington Commanders co-owner Dan Snyder, he “voluntarily testified under oath for approximately 11 hours today, on top of the earlier cooperation offered to the committee”. He hailed the Commanders’ remarkable two-year transition and voiced confidence for the bright future of the company, saying, “Mr. Snyder thoroughly addressed all issues concerning workplace misbehavior.”

A spokesman for the committee said it had no more comment as of Thursday night.

After committee members sorted out some difficulties with Snyder’s legal team on the circumstances of his deposition, Snyder agreed to testify voluntarily. Snyder had already agreed to appear before the committee in accordance with the provisions of a subpoena it issued.

In the case of Snyder’s deposition, the committee is free to disseminate any information it wants. Though a transcript is expected, the hearing was not videotaped or otherwise recorded.
